Less impact and more awareness
We can agree on one thing: the best way to travel "green" is to not travel at all. We acknowledge that, just like any other action aimed at preserving the environment, our project will have an "environmental cost". Moreover, this cost is generally easier to quantify than the savings that will be generated by the project itself (changes in behaviour induced by our awareness campaign).
As with any other time in our lives, the important thing is to understand where our environmental impact is, to think about how to limit it and to look for the most effective balance between the negative impacts of our actions and the expected gains in terms of public awareness. In our view, this translates as follows:
- We track and try to limit our negative impact in all steps of the project (files on recycled paper, alternative transportation methods, eco-designed exhibitions...),
- We will contribute to a carbon compensation fund for the CO2 emissions that we were unable to avoid due to our transport needs (a donation of 300-500€ to a leading carbon compensation organisation).
Support us and help us to travel "greener"
The main environmental impact of our project will be due to the transport that we will require. We therefore wish to limit our use of air travel, which is the most polluting means of passenger transport. Here are examples of the major alternatives we are considering:
- Bus in South America (17,000 km),
- Crossing the Pacific by cargo ship (approximately 11,000 km, 20 days),
- Crossing China and Russia by train (approximately 8,000 km, 7 days)...
Unfortunately, travel by plane is much cheaper for long distances, and these other methods of transport cost us, on average, an extra 1€ for every 3 km. travelled.
In all, we hope to travel 40,000 km. using alternative transport methods, which represents approximately 7 tons of CO2 emissions that are avoided (a 30% reduction of our total emissions).
Therefore, if our environmental awareness campaign makes sense to you and you want to support it, we will symbolically link the donations you make to the "A year for the Planet" association with the CO2 kilogrammes that will have been avoided:
1€ → 3km. of alternative transport → 1kg. of CO2 avoided
Your donations are tax deductible!
As the "A year for the Planet" association is of general interest, you have the right to deduct 66% of your donations from your income tax (60% for businesses): if you donate 100€, your donation will only cost you 34€ after the tax deduction.
A 100€ donation costs you 34€ → 100 kg. of CO2 avoided (300km.)
Upon receipt of your donation, we will issue you a tax receipt (for donations received) that you can submit along with your next tax return.
